Lebanon - The MTC for cooperation from Italy

Assadakah News - The Military Technical Committee for Lebanon (Military Technical Committee - MTC - for Lebanon), an Italian-led multilateral coordination technical body, published today a press release, announcing that it becomes operational and takes its first concrete steps, with the arrival of the first CARGO plane at Beirut airport, coming from Italy and loaded with materials and essential goods for the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF), including medicines and supplies food products.

In a press release published by, The MTC, born in early March and perfected over the course of these months, is chaired by Division General Diodato ABAGNARA, whose main task is to support the LAF in identifying a roadmap which includes a phase of recruitment, training, equipment and financing.

The Committee, established in full synergy with the Lebanese Government, operates both in compliance with Resolutions 1701 (2006), 2650 (2022) and 2695 (2023) of the United Nations mission (UNIFIL), deployed south of the Litani river, and in harmony with the current tasks of the Italian Bilateral Military Mission in Lebanon (MIBIL).

It is currently made up of several framework nations such as France, Germany, Spain, the United Kingdom and some observer countries including the United States, Canada and the Netherlands. Italy, as mentioned, plays, in this context, a leading role as a leading nation, placing itself as the center of gravity for the proposals and initiatives of the partner nations and as the fulcrum of maneuver to give concreteness and implementation to the strengthening and implementation of LAF capacity and mobility.

There are various phases of this new initiative, including the increase in Joint Operations with the Lebanese Armed Forces south of the Litani with the favor and consent of the local population, to give continuity to the presence of specialized UNIFIL personnel, the search for constant and indispensable support from MIBIL instructors and the implementation of activities with a high social impact between CIMIC units - Governmental and non-Governmental Organizations, to gain a constant presence in the territory and encourage the return of displaced persons.

Last but not least, the disposal of explosive devices and an assiduous, widespread and adherent contribution to the well-being of the living conditions of the LAF, as demonstrated by the arrival of the first Italian CARGO aircraft which represents only the beginning, in a context multidimensional and constantly evolving.
